| The 16th of April 2014 started like any other day, the only difference being that Dougall didn’t go to the beach for a walk as his cough was getting worse and we had an appointment for a heart scan that afternoon. By 5:00 pm he had passed away having suffered a major seizure at the time of the scan from which he didn’t recover. The worry and stress of sending Charlotte to Deirdre Croft’s dog George in Sydney was well worth it when a lovely tri litter of four dogs and one bitch arrived early in the new millennium. Dougall and his sister Donney stayed and it wasn’t long before they were making their mark on the show scene. Dougall in particular excelled in the ring, his steady temperament and fabulous alertness saw him become a consistent winner at a high level from a very young age. Achieving his championship points before the age of one year, Dougall won under New Zealand, Australian and Argentinean All Breed judges, and English, Australian and Singaporean breed specialists. In 2001 he was the SISSC's Reserve Dog of the Year, and was prominent in South Island rings until retirement in 2006 being the SISSC's Dog of the Year from 2002 to 2005. Dougall also won the Pedigree Award for Best NZ Shetland Sheepdog in 2002. The show ring aside, Dougall was always my best friend and companion. He was the tri colour I had always wanted and he knew it. Dougall was with me when his sister Donney, and then his daughter Billie (Ch Edenmist Top Billing) passed away, always seeming to know when times were bad and that he was needed. Thank you Dougall for being the wonderful, sensitive sheltie that you were. I will always miss your loving face greeting me, happy ways and wise presence.
